Why Be Spiritually Fit?

"So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober." - 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Why be spiritually fit? What's the point?
Well, I'm glad you asked..
I believe you should ALWAYS start with the end in mind - to know the why behind the things you do. For instance, if you're launching a business, what's the end goal? Impact? Sustainability? If you want to get more fit, what's the end result? abs? More confidence? You get the picture. To not begin with the end in mind is to not have an aim.. And we, my friend, are creatures of aim.
So what are you aiming at? Are you looking to something or someone greater than yourself? Or are you relying on your own strength and your own wisdom? Are you aiming your sights high enough? Or settling for less than what you were created for? ..These are the questions I ask myself almost daily.. (and that's a good thing I think)
I'm not sure about you, but covid opened my eyes to a bunch of things. First off, that life and health can be taken away scary fast . But also, the idea of coming to grips with what happens AFTER this life. It’s so short. So finite. Do we run from those thoughts or do we press into them?
Unfortunately, my friend, I feel as though the majority of people are running from these questions. I think most people would rather constantly distract themselves from the valuable aspects of life and stay asleep to the things of God. But if you're reading this, it's because you don't want that for YOU life! Or at the least, you're curious about what it means to be spiritually fit. It is not your aim to settle. On the contrary, your aim is the highest possible - God's plan for your life!
And with that, here's a few verses that come to mind about the importance of staying ready (being spiritually fit.)
"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong." - 1 Corinthians 16:13
"So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober." - 1 Thessalonians 5:6
And finally, "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8
That last verse may seem a bit dramatic to some, but to others, it's a truth experienced daily. So ask yourself why. Why should you be spiritually fit? Because If we aren't spiritually fit that means we are unfit, incapable, and fall easy prey.
So choose today to stay ready, to rise up, and get spiritually fit because you weren't made to just survive the storms of life, but to run straight through them with the power of God at your back.
Be sure of this, my friend: there's a race to run, a battle to fight, and a life to live. You must run, fight, and live your own life. If you believe in a personal God, the true and living God, you must believe the plans He has for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). But knowing that, it also means there's an enemy that has the opposite plans for your life. If Jesus came to giveyou abundant life, you know the enemy desires to steal, kill and destroy that life.
It's up to YOU. Take action today. Get in the Word. Pray daily. And awaken to God's purpose for your life.
Stay fit,
Brian
